The Problem
Throughout history, TRG has been privileged to work with and support some of the nation’s leading brands, including Fortune 100 and 500 companies. This particular instance is a shining example of our ability to not only meet immediate manufacturing hardware needs but continue to serve as a solutions-focused partner for many years.
Around the mid-2000s, a leading paint and coatings manufacturer engaged us to provide support with mobile computers and handheld devices. At the time, the devices were already legacy status, so the time had come to replace them. Additionally, the company had nearly 400 storefront and warehouse sites needing improved wireless connectivity.
The Solution
Through our buyback program, we were able to help the company offload more than 2,000 outdated mobile computers — saving them the effort of reselling them separately or losing money by scrapping them. We then assisted the company through our wireless services team. To complete the project as efficiently as possible, we determined the best course would be to conduct site surveys remotely. We deployed tablets to each store and once they had arrived, walked a company representative at each location through the process over the phone. As the contact moved through the facility, our technicians were able to monitor the results in real-time - identifying any areas of the facility that had wireless issues and making recommendations for improvement.
As our relationship grew, the company requested additional support for procuring, managing and repairing the mobile devices in its manufacturing hardware program. We began providing a variety of our core services, including depot repairs, spares pool management, help desk support, unifed endpoint management (UEM) troubleshooting and supplying additional refurbished hardware as needed.
Around 2017, we began supporting the next phase of the company’s enterprise mobility maturation. We continued to provide the same services as before, but the time had come for new devices to keep the manufacturing hardware program running at peak performance. To avoid large capital costs and ensure access to the latest and greatest technologies, the company elected to procure the hardware it needed through our Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) program.
TRG MaaS combines on-demand hardware, services, and analytics into one simple and predictable monthly payment — keeping upfront costs down and decreasing time-to-ROI. Taking advantage of this service allowed the company to greatly increase the effectiveness, lifespan and visibility into their manufacturing hardware program. It also ensured they were able to save their capital for more strategic needs.
Because our client is involved in the manufacturing of products that are flammable and also operates in environments containing potentially flammable materials, the company sought intrinsically safe, non-incendive devices for some of their hardware program. We helped the company evaluate alternatives and bundled this equipment in with the rest of their MaaS package.
The Result
We're grateful to this paint and coating manufacturer for their trust and partnership over the past decade and a half, and we look forward to supporting them for years to come.
