As online ordering continues to soar, so too is consumer demand for convenience, simplicity and faster delivery. The way we shop is made possible only with the support of high-functioning warehouse and fulfillment centers, who are under extreme pressure to perform at optimal levels- despite rapidly changing dynamics. As the retail industry evolves, so must the infrastructure that powers it―and companies must continuously evaluate their technology solutions to help their teams keep pace.
It’s no secret that warehouse and logistics companies who upgrade to higher functioning devices are rewarded with greater speed, higher accuracy, better communication and improved efficiency. One of the biggest recent drivers of these upgrades is The End of Support for devices operating on Microsoft Embedded CE 6.0, Handheld 8.1, and Handheld 6.5 operating systems. While some companies have yet to upgrade due to budgetary or logistical concerns, many others have recognized the urgency and have shifted to Android-based technology.
Leveraging New Technology to Improve Workflows
TRG recently had the opportunity to help a leading third-party logistics provider improve their operations by supplying them with new Android-based devices. As sourcing and drop-shipping experts, the customer provides the world’s leading online retailers with a wide range of high-quality products and a seamless end-consumer experience. For over 20 years, the company has been a market innovator, expanding its product set to nearly 100,000 SKUs across more than 25 product categories.
Realizing the time had come to migrate its 150+ fleet of Windows-based rugged mobile computers, the customer reached out to TRG. As a satisfied user of Janam’s XG3 devices, the company was considering Janam’s next generation gun-shaped, rugged mobile computer―the XG200―and we endorsed their selection, having experienced success with other customers who utilized this device.
The customer was pleased with the enhancements XG200 offers. With its patented design, XG200’s high-capacity battery is located inside the handle, delivering a gun-shaped device that is incomparably light and balanced in the hand. The customer found the XG200 to be ergonomically superior, making it shockingly easy to hold, even for extended periods of time. While a seemingly small adjustment, the design has a surprisingly large impact on overall workflows within their warehouse. While the staff was impressed with its intuitive design, management gained comfort knowing their investment was protected by a 5-foot drop rating, IP65 sealing for protection against dust and water and a gorilla glass touch screen.
The comfortable grip, accompanied by the speed of the OS, impressed the warehouse staff so much that they started referring to it as ‘the golden gun’. To have a device improve daily operations so much that your employees give it a nickname is undoubtedly a strong testimonial.
